Our Voluntary Pre-kindergarten Program (VPK) helps your child grow socially, physically, cognitively, and emotionally as we help prepare them for kindergarten. Not only do we teach them valuable lessons like reading and writing, but we also help them get used to being in a learning environment.
Our VPK Curriculum
Our professional staff of educators provide age-appropriate lessons and help your child become familiar with what will be expected of them in a kindergarten classroom. This helps them transition more easily when they begin school.
As a VPK provider, we accept children who turn 4 years old on or before September 1st – our program is 540 instructional hours. While our VPK program teaches basics that your child will need for kindergarten, we also teach them many other skills, like:
Cognitive Development
Our staff will teach your child shapes and colors, how to count to 10, and how to classify similar items. They will also learn about time and the four seasons.
Literacy
Your child will learn how to read and improve their vocabulary, they will also learn how to spell their names and the alphabet.
Physical Development
We will help them with their motor and coordination skills with activities that involve jumping, throwing, and catching, we also engage in age-specific games that help them to stay active.
By being in a classroom environment, they learn how to follow rules and how to share with their classmates.

Our VPK school uses Jonti-Craft products which are the strongest and safest products available. This means our playground has NFL turf with padding and sand underneath which helps to reduce injury. Our entire staff is also First Aid and CPR-certified.

Your child is growing up in a time when technology rules everything. Our teachers use Smart Boards and interactive computers to help students learn numbers, colors, words, or math hands-on with technology. This touch screen spans the size of an average chalkboard – 66” x 46”.
How To Apply For Our VPK Program
To join our VPK program you must have a Certificate of Eligibility from the Florida Department of Education which can be done online or in person. A Certificate of Eligibility requires you to provide the following:
- An original or certified copy of your child’s birth record
- An original or certified copy of the child’s certificate of baptism or other religious record of the birth
- A passport or certificate of the child’s arrival in the U.S.
- An immunization record signed by public health officials or a physician
- Florida SHOTS documentation
- A valid military-dependent identification card
To attend a VPK program at Parkland Children’s Academy you will additionally require proof that your child is a resident of Broward County – this can be in the form of:
- Signed and dated rent receipt or lease agreement, which shows full address
- Recent utility bill, which shows full address
- Recent landline telephone bill, which shows full address
- Military order showing that the child’s parent is a service member in the U.S. Armed Forces and is assigned to duty in Florida
