Our Favorite Outdoor Games For Preschoolers

preschool outdoor games

Outdoor games are a great way to get preschoolers active and have fun. Playing outdoors is a great way to get exercise and fresh air. It also provides opportunities for learning and exploration.

Here are five of our favorite preschool outdoor games:

Hide And Seek

This game is perfect for preschoolers because it helps with coordination and counting skills. You can play this game in the backyard or playground. Hide and seek is a great way to get children active and moving around while practicing their patience and listening skills.

Red Light, Green Light

This game is great for improving preschoolers’ listening skills. An adult or a child stands on one side of the yard or playground while the other children stand in a line on the other side of the playground facing them. The caller yells out a color and the other children must approach the caller. The first one to reach them wins and gets to be the caller in the next round.

Just like a traffic light, green means “go” and children should run. Yellow means “slow down,” so children must go slowly. Red means “stop.” If any of the children are caught not following directions have to go back to the starting line.

Simon Says

This game is perfect for teaching preschoolers how to follow instructions. Simon Says is a game where players are asked to follow commands given by the teacher or parent. The commands may include “Stop” and “Go-to-the-left,” for example. The main object of this game is for children to practice following directions, staying focused, and paying attention in class. While it’s best suited for younger kids, adults can also play Simon Says to improve their memory and attention spans.

For children just starting out, simple commands like “Simon says stop” are usually sufficient. However, as they become more proficient with the game, their commands should become more complex and specific to their actions.

Freeze Dance

Freeze dance is a great way to get preschoolers moving and having fun. You simply have to have a way to play music. Often, you can stream music easily from your smartphone to play. When you pause the music, the kids are supposed to stop dancing. If they don’t, they’re out and have to sit down.

Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a children’s game in which the participants jump over pre-marked lines that are laid out in a grid pattern. It is an excellent exercise for developing coordination and balance, as well as introducing kids to the concept of spatial awareness.

While there are many variations of hopscotch, the most common ones involve jumping over a series of squares on the ground, usually with the aid of either one foot or both feet.

The participants in a hopscotch game typically start at one end of the grid and move towards another end, passing other players along the way. When they reach their goal, they turn around and go back to where they started. It’s a simple game that can be played with any number of players.
